GOD’S STRENGTH
Read Mark 4:36-41.
Jared glanced nervously out the school window. All day it had looked stormy. He hoped there wasn’t going to be another tornado alert today.
As Jared began the first math problem, a bell rang. “Tornado drill,” said Miss Schultz. “Take a large book and file quietly into the hall.” Quickly the students obeyed, taking their places in the school’s inner hall. Then they put the books over their heads. But there was something different today. Jared could hear a siren signaling that a tornado funnel had been seen nearby.
Jared had never been so scared! But as he sat trembling, he remembered something Dad had said just the weekend before. They had gone swimming, and as Dad walked out into the deep water, Jared’s little brother, Brian, hung on to Dad’s shoulders. “Are you scared in the deep water, Brian?” Jared had asked.
Brian had said, “Nope, Dad’s got me.”
Dad had replied, “I’m glad you trust your father.” Then he had added, “And remember that you can always trust your Father in heaven, too.”
A few minutes later, Jared heard a roaring sound. It got louder and louder. It almost sounded like a train rushing by. He had heard that a tornado sounded that way. I’m still scared, Jared thought, but not so scared. God’s my heavenly Father, and He’s in control.
After the all-clear whistle sounded, the children returned to their classrooms and were soon dismissed to go home. They learned that a tornado had indeed passed by, but no one had been hurt.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Storms can be frightening, can’t they? They are powerful and can cause a lot of damage. But God is even more powerful. Remember that God is in control.
TO MEMORIZE:
The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”
