ATTIC ADVENTURE

Read Psalm 33:4-12.

“Come on, Cassidy,” called Hunter. “Mom says we can play up in the attic.”

“Cool!” exclaimed Cassidy. “I love to wear those old clothes and big hats.”

Hunter and Cassidy climbed the steep steps to the attic of the old family home. Soon they were trying on clothes their grandparents and parents had saved through the years.

They trooped down the stairs, where they found Mom and Dad in the kitchen. “I wore those old saddle shoes when I was a teenager,” said Mom as she observed Cassidy, “and that hat belonged to my grandmother. Hunter’s old-fashioned tie is simply charming with that shirt!”

“These styles were fads once,” commented Dad. “Everyone wanted them.”

Mom nodded. “When it comes to styles, people always seem to want the latest thing,” she said. “That’s okay unless clothes become the most important thing in our lives.”

“Yes,” agreed Dad, “or unless we copy some of the sinful activities of the world just as we copy the latest fads.”

“Is sinning a fad?” asked Cassidy.

“Not exactly,” replied Dad, “but sometimes wrong activities are very popular. People in the world change as far as the things they like to do, but God’s principles never change. As Christians we need to be careful that we measure the ‘in’ activities against what God teaches.”

“I get it,” said Hunter. “Like right now, many people think that if it feels good, it’s okay. But that’s not what God tells us.”

“You got it!” said Dad.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

When kids around you use bad words, are you tempted to do the same? If a friend tells a lie, do you find yourself telling the same lie? Don’t try to be like others when they sin. Styles of clothing and behavior may change, but God’s ways never change.

TO MEMORIZE:

The LORD’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.
