An Inheritance (part 2)

AN INHERITANCE (PART 2)

Read Ephesians 1:11-14.

As soon as he could, Kyle visited Great-Uncle Hank and helped him work on the Model T again. After a while, Uncle Hank stuck his head out from under the hood and looked at Kyle. “I want you to know my will states that you will inherit this car,” he said. “I’d like you to have a set of keys for it now.”

“Wow!” Kyle’s eyes glistened as he thanked his uncle.

That night Kyle showed his parents the keys. “So you’re really going to own that car,” said Dad with a smile.

Kyle nodded, but he had a question. “You said Christians will receive the blessings of heaven as an inheritance from God. How can we be sure of that?”

“Well,” replied Dad, “how can you be sure Uncle Hank will give you the car?”

Kyle answered, “I trust him because I’ve never heard him lie. He even gave me keys to prove that he intends to give me the car.”

“That’s right,” answered Dad, “and we can trust God to do what He said, too, because He has never lied. He also sends the Holy Spirit to live in us to prove that we really belong to Him.”

“How can we know the Holy Spirit is living in us?” asked Kyle.

Dad answered, “Galatians 5:22-23 says the proof or fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

Mom nodded. “I also know I’m God’s child because the Holy Spirit causes me to be interested in the things of God. And He gives me peace in my heart.”

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Has the Holy Spirit given you assurance that you are a child of God? Is He changing your life? Is there evidence of His presence in your life?

TO MEMORIZE:

His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
