A Wonderful Meal
A WONDERFUL MEAL
Read Psalm 119:9-16.
Abigail picked up her Bible and brushed off the dust that had gathered since she used it last Sunday. This Bible had been a gift from the church for perfect attendance, and Abigail wanted to keep it looking new.
“It won’t do you any good if you don’t read from it,” her mother warned.
One day Abigail picked up her mother’s Bible and leafed through it. “How come you let your Bible get so old looking?” she asked.
Mom smiled. “You don’t mean old looking do you?” she asked. “You mean used looking, right?”
Abigail shrugged her shoulders. Suddenly, she burst into laughter. “Look what you wrote in it,” she said, showing her mother the Bible. “It says, ‘Another wonderful meal.’”
“You’ll find those words all through the Bible,” Mom replied.
“Why would you write that in your Bible?” Abigail asked, flipping through more pages.
“God’s Word is food for my spiritual life just like the meals I make are food for my physical needs,” Mom explained. “The Bible gives strength, life, and maturity. It helps us to grow in love, and it shows us how to stay away from sin.”
Abigail thought about her mother’s words. Her Sunday school teacher had said almost the same thing last week. Abigail went to her room. She picked up her beautiful Bible and opened it carefully. It was nice to keep it looking new, but it was more important to use it and benefit from God’s teaching. She began to read and think about the words she was reading. Maybe someday she, too, would write in her Bible, “Another wonderful meal.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Does your Bible look nice but unused? Is the Bible a part of your everyday life? Remember, it’s your spiritual food. Don’t neglect those meals.
TO MEMORIZE:
I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways.
