But there’s one more critical step you must take to move through the fog: shave your legs, paint your toenails, and get back out there.

Baby, life goes on. Very few of life’s 10-on-the-Richter-scale disappointments can be fixed. It’s time to start anew . . . and that beginning starts with a new attitude.

Heartbreaks due to a failed love affair may be one of the hardest disappointments for women to move through. After my first marriage ended, I felt unworthy of another love. Even though I was young, I determined that I would not remarry. I had failed in my marriage, and unfortunately I allowed that failure to define me and my future.

But this guy named Steve (a confirmed bachelor until our first date) had other ideas. For nearly twenty years now I have lived and loved in a fairy-tale marriage. Moving a little faster than 2 to 3 mph, I managed to get through the fog and see the light! And the light was handsome, smart, funny, and now brings me a cup of coffee every morning.

Oh, yes! I’m so happy I shaved my legs!

We must be resilient. We must be open to learning. We must be open to making new mistakes. It’s not the failure that will get you in the end—it’s the decision to allow it to limit your future.
