Getting a Do-Over - I Would Have Embraced the Adventure (Part Deux)
Getting a Do-Over - I Would Have Embraced the Adventure (Part Deux)
We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing. —George Bernard Shaw
THE LAST THING that Ashley said she would do over was to invest more time in her own well-being. She said she took sick days when she was very ill, and most of her personal days off were taken to tend to her mother or other family members.
When’s the last time you took a day off just for you? If your schedule is anything like mine, this might be a stretch, but if you choose to, you can find a few hours or a day to take in a museum, sit in a park, go to a play, or see some other sight. Really. When you think about it, in the grand scheme of our life, what’s a few hours to create this memory or adventure? What’s a few hours to energize your heart and mind?
When I was younger and traveling on business, many of my friends would “ooh and ahh” over my opportunities to visit new cities. They soon became bored and disenchanted with my travel tales because I could describe only the layout of the airport or the cleanliness of the taxi.
Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. (Ecclesiastes 5:18-19)
I’m with Ashley. I wish I had taken a couple of hours and gone to the play. What about you? Will you invest in yourself next time you’re on the road?
