Who Else?

That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick. This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.” Matthew 8:16-17

This story of Jesus taking our physical illness and removing our diseases is just a foreshadowing of greater things to come. On the cross, not only did Jesus take our sicknesses, he also took all of the sins of the world—past, present, and future. His death made us clean and spiritually healthy once again.

No matter how hard we try, and even with all of the tools of modern medicine, doctors cannot heal everyone. Even diseases that have cure rates nearing 100 percent still have an isolated case or two that doesn’t respond to treatment. But with Jesus, his cure rate is always 100 percent.

When we look to Jesus for healing, we need to understand that his healing isn’t limited to just our earthly world. Sometimes, to see his healing hands at work, we need to look beyond this world and realize that he may heal something greater than just our mortal bodies. He may choose not to heal us here on earth; he may want us to wait until he heals us permanently, for all of eternity.

Who else but Jesus could take our illnesses and heal them by the touch of his hand? Who else but Jesus and his death on the cross could heal our mortality?

The answers we receive to our prayers and requests for healing may be different from what we are asking, but that doesn’t mean God hasn’t heard or that he has denied us healing. Healing can occur on both sides of the veil that separates this world from the next. Complete healing of our mortal bodies will only happen on the other side of the veil.

Look expectantly for God’s healing, wherever it may happen.

Father, give me the courage to accept your plan for me, even when it deviates from what I ask. Embolden my faith so that I may trust you with all my heart through whatever lies ahead.
