Trust Your Provider

For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. Psalm 33:4

I have often seen medical treatments prescribed to patients that should work, but for some reason, they don’t. I’ve also seen treatments that shouldn’t work because they had no scientific basis, and yet they work; the patients thrived and got well.

Why does the same treatment plan or medication work for one person and not for another?

What’s the difference between treatments that work and those that don’t?

I believe it has to do with whether the patient trusts the treatment plan and the doctor who prescribed it.

Nearly every medical study—whether testing a new treatment or a new drug—is tested against a placebo (no medical treatment). Though a placebo doesn’t have any medical value, it always results in a positive response for some people. In other words, doing nothing works just as effectively as the medicine or treatment that is being tested. This is called the placebo effect. The reason we see the placebo effect work positively is because patients who don’t know they are receiving the placebo believe that whatever they are taking works. In some cases, the response rate to the placebo can be as high as 30 percent.

That’s the kind of faith God wants us to place in him and his words. When it seems as if nothing is happening and there is no proof that we are receiving what we think we need, he wants us to trust his Word. If we believe in God’s Word, he is faithful to keep the promises he has made to us, and he’s proved this over and over again, not only in the Bible but in our lives.

As today’s verse says, the word of the Lord holds true. If faith in a placebo works 30 percent of the time, imagine what 100 percent faith in God can do!

Trust God. He still keeps his word.

God, you are faithful, and your Word always proves true. I know I can go to it for the answers I need. Help me to seek your truth above all else and come to you first for counsel.
