The Miraculous Turnaround

Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory. 1 Peter 1:21

“Ma’am, your son is very, very sick. Do you know what happened?”

“I don’t know,” Barb said through her tears. “He’s been struggling to fit in at school this year. We just moved, hoping that would help. His old friends just hung out together and got high. I always told him that nothing good would come from that.”

She started to cry harder.

“Colin came home last night from his AA meeting, and he seemed on top of the world. He played with his little sister, and we told him how proud we were of him. He was doing better and getting his life back on track. Around nine, he went upstairs to his room. I knew he was tired, and I didn’t think anything about it until this morning when my husband tried to wake him up. Then he started CPR while I called 911 . . . is he going to be okay?”

“It’s too early to tell,” I said. “His oxygen saturation levels were dangerously low. We’ve got him intubated, and there’s a machine helping him breathe, so right now his blood pressure and his pulse are good. We need to transfer him to downtown Nashville to the ICU—”

“I just want him to be okay,” Barb sobbed as she watched the EMTs wheel Colin out to the ambulance.

“Could we stop right now and pray for your son and your family?” I asked.

Barb nodded.

After I prayed, asking God to surround and protect Colin, Barb and her husband left to follow the ambulance. But things didn’t look good for Colin.

The next day, I dreaded getting the report from the ICU. But when the call came, the pulmonologist sounded giddy. “There was a miracle in bed 15!”

“Colin, the young man with the overdose?”

“Yes! He woke up this morning and smiled at me.”

“What?”

“We took him off life support, and he’s doing great. He should be out of the hospital and back home by the end of the week.”

Without a doubt, I knew that Colin’s life had been snatched out of the jaws of death and that God alone deserved the glory.

God has the power, and the will, to snatch us from the very jaws of death.

God, you are mighty to save. Thank you for the miracles you perform. Even when I am disobedient, you show your grace and favor to me. I am forever grateful.
