Spill Your Joy

I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! John 15:11

Jesus died on the cross to restore our broken relationship with our heavenly Father. We no longer have to worry about whether we measure up to God’s perfect laws because Jesus has supplied our righteousness. We also no longer have to be concerned about the future because Jesus has already taken care of it. He is the eternal well of joy, and he wants us to celebrate with him, be filled with his glory, and have our joy increase.

We know that Jesus enjoyed parties because his first miracle took place at a wedding when the hosts ran out of wine. If Jesus were as solemn and serious as we sometimes make him out to be, he probably would have avoided the fun and allowed the party to end so that he could get back to doing the important things he came to do.

But Jesus didn’t want the party to end. Instead, he helped it continue by turning water into the most delicious wine the guests had ever tasted. Talk about bringing joy! Imagine how the servants must have felt as they watched the host and his guests celebrate.

Jesus is the source of our joy. We don’t have to ask whether our cup is half full or half empty, because Jesus has filled us until our joy runs over the brim. As we allow him to pour into us, our cups will continually overflow. The joy that spills out of us will flow to our neighbors and throughout our communities. Eventually, our joy will flow to the next town, the next state, and the next country, until the entire world is soaked in the joy of Jesus.

When your glass seems empty, look to the Lord, and he will fill it to the brim with joy.

My heart is full when I worship you, God. Your spirit fills me with joy and delight. Allow me to be a source of encouragement and light to those I see and meet with today.
