Patient Expectation

All glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

Do you often feel as if you’re in the waiting room of life? Does it seem like you’ve been waiting forever for the Great Physician to emerge from the operating room to give you the news you long to hear?

In those moments when we’re waiting for an answer to prayer, the results of a medical test, or the end of therapy to see if our strength has returned, we can change our view from one of passive waiting to one of patient expectation. When we open our Bibles, we see God’s plan and purpose through his words, which provide us with the comfort we need to know that all will soon be well because God can accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or imagine.

Too often when we pray for healing, we stop short of asking for all we want. With our weak logic and feeble faith, we think that if we ask for just a little bit of healing, God is more apt to answer than if we were to ask for complete healing. But today’s verses remind us that God’s mighty power at work within us can do more than we think.

I have seen many medical miracles that can only be explained by God’s “mighty power at work.” Many of these miracles are documented in this devotional and in my first book, Appointments with Heaven. In addition to the healings I’ve witnessed, I have also seen God’s power at the bedsides of those who are about to meet Jesus face-to-face.

Both physical and spiritual healing are part of God’s plan. We are often shielded from all the reasons he does what he does, but today’s verses remind us that he is all-powerful and that all glory belongs to him—even when we’re in the waiting room of life.

The next time you’re waiting, rather than pacing and wondering, read God’s Word and know that he is able to do everything that is within his will.

Jesus, thank you for this reminder that you are capable of more than I can even imagine. I boldly ask for complete healing and a clean bill of health in your name.
