Confession Is Good For The Soul

If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. Psalm 66:18

Whether you have an appointment for your annual physical or you’re visiting the doctor because you don’t feel well, it’s important to be honest about what is happening in your life. It’s important to tell your doctor everything, even when it is uncomfortable. You may need to confess areas of your life that are holding you back from health. Your doctor has to know the real you to guide you back to a healthy state.

Sometimes my nurses are surprised that patients will tell me things they haven’t told anyone else. But in order to have open communication with anyone, there has to be a place for confession. It’s a good thing when patients tell me their secrets; it means they trust me.

The same is true with the Great Physician. He wants us to share our deepest and darkest secrets with him, not because he doesn’t already know them—he does—but because he wants to forgive us completely. First we must ask for that forgiveness through confession.

God is always there, and he is always willing to listen to the desires of our hearts. However, sometimes things get in the way of our relationship with our heavenly Father. The barriers between ourselves and God can quickly be removed if we start our prayers with confession. Then, if we’ll let him, God can do miraculous things in our lives, including healing us to the depths of our being.

Jesus is knocking on the door to your heart. Open the door to him and confess what’s been going on in your life. You will not only feel better if you do, but you’ll also open the door to healing.

Find a trusted friend, family member, or spiritual leader and confess anything that is holding you back from the life that God desires for you.

Lord, help me to be honest with you about my sins. Help me to be honest with myself, with my loved ones, and with my doctor. In doing this, help me to find a path toward you, toward honesty, and toward better health.
