Who Will Go?

Q: How did Isaiah answer the questions “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”

Jessica and Jasmine went on a summer mission trip. Both went through several days of training before the team left for their mission field. The team members learned simple construction techniques, practiced painting, and mastered a tough obstacle course that taught teamwork. On the final night before the trip, there was a commissioning service. All the lights were turned off, and a single candle was lit. That candle was used to light another, and the flame was passed until all the candles were glowing in order to symbolize taking the light of Jesus into a dark world. By lighting the candle, each team member was showing his or her willingness to be a witness for Jesus.

Isaiah didn’t run an obstacle course each day at 5:30 a.m. or learn to pour concrete or even light a candle, but he was called to be a light for God in a dark world. After Isaiah realized his own sinfulness and was cleansed by God, he heard the Lord saying, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”

Isaiah immediately responded, “Here I am. Send me.” Isaiah eagerly volunteered to do God’s work without even knowing what it would be.

God is still asking, “Whom shall I send?” How will you answer?

When God calls, are you willing to say, “Here I am. Send me”? God will never ask you to do something that is unsafe or too difficult for you to do. He will give you the wisdom and ability to do the job he calls you to do.
