Ezekiel was a prophet to the Jews who had been taken captive to Babylon. He lived among them in exile. Just as with Jeremiah, God called Ezekiel to be a prophet. Before being called, Ezekiel was training to be a priest in God’s Temple.

Ezekiel had many visions that he describes in the book that shares his name. He saw visions of beasts, wheels, fire, and more. Ezekiel prophesied the total destruction of Israel. He said the Israelites would end up throwing their money in the street like trash.

The people had allowed their money to lead them into sin. They used their money for their own pleasures, and they became proud. God gave them silver and gold, but they used it to make idols. Those idols couldn’t deliver them from the trouble they were in.

God has blessed us with money, homes, clothes, and other good things. He wants us to use what we have for him and to share it with the poor. Yet many times it’s the things people own that keep them from God.

The things God gives us are best used to accomplish his plans, not our own selfish desires. If you have game systems and games, share them with a friend who is discouraged or lonely, or use them to entertain younger siblings to give your mom a break. If you have a bike, ask your parents’ permission to run errands nearby. If you have an allowance, put part of it in the offering to help support your church and missionaries. Share what you have with others, and it will mean more than just having things for your own pleasure.

Be careful to never let your possessions become more important than God or seeking his will. Be a good guardian of all he’s given you by using it well and sharing it with others.
