Sin Enters the World

Q: What kind of fruit did Eve take from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?

God made a beautiful garden home for Adam and Eve. He told them they could eat from any tree except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. One day Satan, who was disguised as a serpent, approached Eve in the Garden. The conversation went like this:

Serpent: “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

Eve: “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden. It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat.”

Serpent: “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

Eve fell for the lie and ate fruit from the forbidden tree, and then Adam did the same. When they ate the fruit, things changed. Sin entered the world, and everyone who has lived since that time is born with the tendency to sin. Adam and Eve were banished from their Garden home, and they could no longer walk and talk personally with God in the Garden as they had before.

Although Adam and Eve were punished for their sin, God already had a plan in place. He knew one day he’d send his Son to die on the cross to pay the penalty so people could be forgiven of their sins.

First Corinthians 10:13 promises that God will help you find a way out of every temptation. You just have to ask him. The next time you’re tempted to do something wrong, ask God for help. You might need to walk away from a situation.
