Growing In God
Growing in God
Q: What does the book of 1 Peter say Christians should crave?
- a. more of the Spirit
- b. pure spiritual milk
- c. healing from sickness
Did your parents keep a baby book for you? If so, it probably includes a growth chart that shows your height and weight at different ages and maybe even how you compared to the average baby of the same age. The book tells when you started eating baby cereal, fruits, and vegetables. It also shows when you sat up, crawled, and walked. It’s amazing to see how much you’ve learned and grown.
When you accept Jesus as your Savior, you become a spiritual newborn. You need spiritual milk to begin your life in God. The sad thing is some Christians never get past the newborn stage. Years after they accept Christ, they are no farther along in their faith walks than at the beginning.
When you’re a new Christian, you begin learning the truths about God, Jesus, and the Bible. You learn how God wants you to live, and you begin trusting him to guide you each day. You listen for God’s prompting to make the right choices.
As you mature in your faith, you get deeper into the Bible. You begin learning harder concepts about God, Jesus, sin, and how to live the Christian life. The Holy Spirit reveals more to you as you allow him to.
Growing in God is a process just like going from scooting to crawling to walking is. And like with a baby, it happens one step at a time. Don’t get stuck in the scooting or crawling stage. Move on in your Christian walk.
For You
Are you stuck in the newborn stage? If so, be faithful in your devotions. Take time to read “The Whole Story” Scripture passages for extra understanding. Listen carefully in church, and write down the things you understand. You will grow a little more each day.
Answer: b
Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness. 1 Peter 2:2-3
