God’s Plan Continues

The first two brothers to ever walk this earth were opposites. Abel loved and obeyed God. Cain didn’t. Rather than turning to God, Cain let anger and jealousy consume him, and he committed the first murder.

God had promised a Savior who would come from Adam’s family tree. But Abel, who loved God and would have been the one in Jesus’ family tree, was dead. So God replaced Abel with Seth. That doesn’t mean Seth was just like Abel. It means Seth was chosen to be the ancestor of Jesus in Abel’s place.

It was only because Seth loved God, just as Abel had, that God was able to use him in this special way. In fact the Bible tells us, “When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the LORD by name” (Genesis 4:26). Seth passed his love for God on to his children.

God’s plan to walk and talk with Adam and Eve in the Garden was ruined by their sin. The plan for Abel to be an ancestor of Jesus was ruined by Cain’s sin. But Seth’s obedience turned things around.

For You

God has a plan for you just as he did for Abel and Seth—and even as he did for Cain, although Cain chose not to fulfill God’s plan. If you try to do the things you know God wants you to do each day, he will be able to use you to do important things for him. You face a lot of decisions every day. Make each choice one that pleases God, and live in a way that allows God to use you however he chooses. It’s an adventure you don’t want to miss.
