Wicked People

The strength of the wicked will be shattered, but the LORD takes care of the godly.

Psalm 37:17

CAROL WAS THE woman all the other women in town were jealous of. Her still-youthful face, thanks to plastic surgery, was all over the society pages. She and her husband took vacations to exotic locations multiple times a year. She drove her children around town in a luxury SUV. Housework wasn’t a chore for her because her family employed a live-in maid to take care of their mansion.

One day, though, Carol and her husband were arrested for embezzling money. The extravagant lifestyle they had led was the result of criminal activity, not hard work. Suddenly, the wealthy kingdom they had built for themselves came crashing down. The other women in town had nothing to be envious of after all.

God promises to deal justly with wicked people in the long run. Never envy them. Never even wish you could have what they have. Those who trust God are taken care of in a multitude of ways people like Carol can only dream about.

Satan will try to suck the life out of you through such envy. But God promises that when you trust in him, he will give you the real blessings that not only build up but also last.

Though we might not receive all the material things we’ve ever wanted, we have the assurance of eternal life through faith in God, as well as the righteousness, peace, and joy promised through the Holy Spirit.
