Unequally Yoked

If a believing woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to continue living with her, she must not leave him. For the believing wife brings holiness to her marriage, and the believing husband brings holiness to his marriage. Otherwise, your children would not be holy, but now they are holy.

1 Corinthians 7:13-14

AFTER JENNIE CAME to Christ and her life changed, she faced the fact that she was married to a man who didn’t know Jesus. Jennie’s husband drank often, gambled occasionally, and could get mean in an argument. Jennie’s own mother counseled her to divorce him. But the verses above held her back. Wanting to please the Lord, she stuck it out in a tough marriage because she knew what his Word says.

Over the years, she didn’t see much progress in her husband’s spiritual life. However, her three children committed themselves to the Lord at early ages. One even became a missionary when he reached adulthood. Because of her faithfulness to her husband and to God’s Word, she often thought that God rewarded her with children who kept the faith even in hard times.

Late in life, the miracle happened. Jennie’s husband began seeking the Lord. In time, he accepted Christ and became a strong member of the congregation Jennie had attended for years.

While not all unequally yoked husbands and wives see their spouses come to Christ, God does reward their faithfulness. If that’s your situation, hang in there. God knows and understands your pain and confusion. He will hear your cries for help and send you blessings.
