The Idea Of Marriage

A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

WHERE DID THE idea of marriage come from? Who invented it?

Those who support the idea of evolution would have us believe that marriage came about as lesser animals evolved into thinking people. The socialization necessary to the success of the human race demanded it.

Others might say marriage developed strictly from the need to survive. Women needed protection. Men needed sex. As a moral consciousness developed, people naturally gravitated toward the union of marriage.

But this is all hypothetical. The Bible offers a precise and exact reason: it is the way God made us. Male and female. One man, one woman. A boy grows into a man, finds the woman of his dreams, leaves his home, sets up his own place, and they link for the duration of their lives.

It makes sense, doesn’t it? If you subscribe to other theories, why would a man settle down with one woman? Why would women not work together to protect themselves? Why wouldn’t it involve the whole village? No, God created the family unit as the single primary social structure. He knew we’d function best that way. It’s worked for millennia. And God promises to bless marriage if we follow the Bible’s blueprint.
