Spiritually Parched

I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children.

Isaiah 44:3

HOW WOULD YOU feel if the roof and walls of your house suddenly started showing cracks?

For several years, areas of Texas went through a drought. As the ground went months without moisture, it cracked. And the cracks affected the foundations of even well-built homes, causing cracks in the walls and ceilings. With low moisture for years, the ground was totally parched.

Have you ever felt parched spiritually? Thirst can happen quickly—one or two days of not taking time with God can make us thirsty. But if we keep going without spending time with God, our souls become parched.

When we’re parched spiritually, we may not find renewal in just one watering. For instance, if you forget to water a potted plant for a couple of weeks and then suddenly pour water into it, sometimes the water runs out of the pot and overflows the water dish instead of being absorbed by the plant—it is just too parched to be able to handle much water. You might have to add water slowly, consistently, several days in a row to get your plant healthy again.

Are you feeling spiritually parched? Spend time with the Lord until you’re sated—whether you’re facing simple thirst or are completely parched. Then he’ll pour out blessings not only on you but also on those you love.
