Satan’s Fall

“Yes,” [Jesus] told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.”

Luke 10:18-19

TO MANY CHRISTIANS, Satan seems amazingly powerful. Missionaries attest to the darkness he brings upon tribes and families in Africa, India, and other places. Sometimes a demon-possessed or Satan-controlled person will wreak great havoc in a village. And in the rest of the world, people who act as mediums, spirit channelers, and prophets can deceive many with their charms and predictions.

One young man felt he was being attacked so fiercely by the devil that he slept with a Bible under his pillow every night. He believed that would ward off future attacks.

For the Christian, though, there is no need ever to fear Satan. Jesus defeated him at the Cross. By paying for the sins of the world, Jesus blocked Satan’s power to induce guilt and hold people under his accusations. By rising from the dead, Jesus broke Satan’s other bastion of power: death. Christians do not need to fear either guilt or death.

God gives his solemn word that he will protect you and help defeat Satan in your life. No matter what part of your life you may think Satan has power over, trust God. He will defeat him in that area too.
