Seek God Now
Seek God Now
Seek the LORD while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the LORD that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.
Isaiah 55:6-7
ONE NIGHT WHILE Robin was serving in Iraq, she found this passage in a Bible someone had given her. When she came to these verses, she wept. She had joined the army to spite her parents. She wanted to fight because of the anger in her soul. But God melted her heart that night. She cried out to him and, as the verses promised, she found that God forgave her and helped her find new hope in a whole new life without hatred.
Some claim that the God of the Old Testament is angry, harsh, malevolent, bent on making our lives miserable.
But God’s heart is right in the middle of a verse like this. He longs for us to seek him, to look at sin and admit it has hurt us and others, and to acknowledge that it was wrong. If we do that, he says he will have mercy on us and will forgive.
What a portrait! God’s heart is a compassionate, gracious, and caring heart, so much so that he sent Jesus to make our salvation possible.
Are you having trouble in your relationship with God right now? Seek his heart. His promise is to have mercy. He doesn’t just forgive, he forgives generously.
