Sacrifice
Sacrifice
We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?
1 John 3:16-17
WE SELDOM ENJOY sacrificing for others. Many of us don’t want to come out of our comfort zones to do something that may cost us emotionally, physically, or monetarily. Too often, when someone presents a need, our first thought is, Let so-and-so handle it. He’s good at it or Let the Help Fund person at church handle it. There is money for just that purpose.
Becoming like Jesus in character, though, means that God expects us all to learn to sacrifice for others, especially for other believers. From minor inconveniences to major investments, Christians make all kinds of sacrifices every day. Perhaps you know of a need right now that you could meet if you just decided to give up your complacency.
God will call upon each of us to sacrifice at times. If we claim to love God, he expects us to share his love with others.
