Resist The Devil

Humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

THE DEVIL COMES to each of us with different tactics and strategies. Some people give in to the temptation to commit flagrant sin, such as adultery, stealing, lying, hatred, jealousy, and so on. Others give in to his tricks to get them focused on the wrong things, such as money or power in business. Still others might be deceived into believing falsehoods by those who promote many ways to God or into thinking that by doing good they can make themselves pleasing to God without believing in Christ.

Amber seemed to experience all those kinds of temptations in her life. In fact, she seemed to careen from one temptation to the next. First, she believed the lie that having sex outside of marriage is okay. But in time, jealousy, anger, and hatred began to intrude. Then she broke up with her boyfriend. Finally, Satan really moved in on her, accusing her of blowing it.

Satan uses all these tactics on all of us at one time or another. Through Scripture, though, Amber found forgiveness and learned to tell the devil to “go away” when the bad thoughts and temptations returned.

How does one deal with such attacks? James says it simply: “Resist.” How do you do that? Quote the Bible. Run if you’re tempted beyond what you think you can stand. Stop and pray and ask God to deal with Satan.

When you feel the devil trying to lead you down an evil path, resist. The Bible promises he will flee. Every time.
