On Record

LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? But you offer forgiveness that we might learn to fear you.

Psalm 130:3-4

HAVE YOU EVER worried that God might be keeping a record of your sins? You may believe that one day when you stand before him, he’ll pull out these giant books, and an angel will read off every bad thing you ever did.

If you’re a Christian, have no fear. God keeps no records of his children’s sins. When he forgives us through faith in Christ, every bad thing we ever did is wiped away. As this psalm says, God does not keep a record of our wrongs.

By the same token, God does keep records—of all the good things we’ve done. He promises to one day reward us for those things in heaven. And his rewards are better than any Oscar or Pulitzer or Nobel Prize this world could give.

Look to God. If you worry about sin, make sure you have trusted Christ about your past, present, and future. If you have, remember there is nothing to fear from a God who loves you as much as our God does. If you haven’t trusted him already, trust him now.
