Never Wither

They delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

Psalm 1:2-3

Psalm 1 TALKS very explicitly about how delighting in God’s Word makes us like trees planted by a riverbank. But what does that mean?

A tree planted by a river will always have the nourishment it needs to grow and thrive. Anyone who has gone to elementary school knows how crops planted near a water source always grow better than those in a desert.

Another thing those trees have is security. They won’t wither, even in a tough time. They get the support they need to stand through droughts and storms. That’s the essence of the person “delighting” in God’s Word. He or she will be secure, safe, and sure.

One more thing about this type of tree: because it’s near the source of nourishment, it flourishes and becomes beautiful in the eyes of those who look on it.

Do you want to have God’s blessings of help and support, security, and real beauty? Let his Word be your primary source of sustenance. He gives his word that, if you drink in his nourishment, you will be like that tree planted by a river.
