Looking Forward
Looking Forward
If we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.
Romans 8:25
REMEMBER WHEN YOU were a kid and you so looked forward to a birthday or Christmas? Why do we look forward to such events? Because we believe something good will happen. Our parents will give us a new bike or that new game we hoped for or that dollhouse we so wanted when we saw it on television.
One of the best things in life is looking forward to something. Whether it’s a present or a visit from an old friend or a big event like the Super Bowl or the Golden Globes, we can be on tenterhooks until it comes to pass.
Christians look forward to many things, a number of which are beyond this world. Heaven. Eternal life. Jesus himself. Seeing the Father. Having everyone see the little things we did for him. Hearing his “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
It’s that looking forward that helps us patiently trust and hang in there through even the most difficult times. Some of God’s greatest promises are yet to be fulfilled. But one day, be quite confident, they will be.
