Listen Up

My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God.

Proverbs 2:1-5

SOLOMON WROTE THIS to his son, advising him to take to heart all his father had to teach. Three words stand out: first, wisdom, which is the ability to solve problems skillfully; second, insight, the power to see beneath the superficiality of things; and third, understanding, the power to see the big picture, what God is really doing in the whole world.

We should seek these abilities just as we’d seek treasures of silver and gold. Gaining wisdom, insight, and understanding will give us true reverence and respect for God. They will help us see what God is doing in our lives and in the lives of others. These characteristics help us realize how much God loves us. And through them, we gain a depth of understanding about God and his work.

Do you want to know God more deeply? Study his Word. Seek wisdom, insight, and understanding from it. God will reward you with not only knowledge of truth but also personal knowledge of himself.
