Keep Trusting

Keep Trusting

Do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. “For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.”

Hebrews 10:35-37

HOW MANY CHRISTIANS today look forward to Jesus’ coming? All through the ages, Christians have awaited that moment. This passage is one reason. “For in just a little while,” the writer says.

The timing of Jesus’ second coming has always been in question for believers. From the writings in the New Testament, one could easily get the impression that the disciples thought Jesus might come at any moment. St. Augustine, in the 400s, thought Jesus might come in his lifetime. Martin Luther in the 1500s also thought Jesus might come soon. In our own time, many have even predicted a specific time when they thought the Bible indicated Jesus had to come.

They’ve all been wrong. But one thing is right: Jesus will come back. And when you look at it from God’s perspective—that a few thousand years are like a day—it makes sense. And for us who have eternal life, Jesus’ coming is only a short time away compared to all the time we will have with him in heaven.

Look up, and keep looking there. One guarantee beyond death and taxes is that Jesus is coming back. Live as if he’s coming in just a little while.
