Keep Confident

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

Hebrews 10:36

THE BOSTON RED SOX have taken some hard hits. For eighty-six years they languished and did not win a World Series. But then in 2004, facing the awesome St. Louis Cardinals, they did it. They won. The Red Sox won again in 2007 and 2013.

How many fans gave up over those eighty-six years, calling the Red Sox “losers”? How many prayed for a victory, just one, and never saw it, dying without ever seeing their beloved team triumph? But for some, the miracle happened, and the town went crazy.

Enduring, persevering, hanging in there is one of the hardest things to do in life. It means to try, try, and try again, even if defeated every time. Some eventually do give up. They turn to alcohol or bitterness or other destructive means of avoiding or dealing with their pain.

Christians are not immune. The Christian life is a marathon, and it takes much determination and endurance to reach the end whole. Don’t give up the struggle. Refuse to throw in the towel. Keep in the race. If you do press on, God will reward you one day, and that reward will literally be out of this world.
