Jesus Is Coming
Jesus Is Coming
There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.
John 14:2-3
IN THE JEWISH culture of Jesus’ day, when a man and woman became betrothed, the man would start working on the home he and his beloved would share. Imagine the bridegroom’s excitement as he planned the love nest. He planned sturdy walls and a strong roof to protect his wife from the elements of nature. Imagine the little details he added to give his wife small comforts—details that he thought through just because he loved her and wanted their home to be as much of a “palace” as possible for her.
When the bridegroom had completed the home, then came the next stage—the man would go for his bride, wed her, and they’d move into the home to be together for the rest of their lives.
What a picture of how Christ cares for us! When we become betrothed to Christ by giving our lives to him, work starts on our heavenly palaces. Our Beloved prepares a home for us that includes the creature comforts he knows will show us how much he loves us and has thought about our happiness. Imagine how amazing that custom-built home will be!
Finally the day will come when Christ comes to claim us, to take us to this home so we can live with him—happily ever after. It’s a promise we can look forward to!
