It’s For Everyone

Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.

Ephesians 2:20-22

ONE OF THE greatest truths about the gospel is that it’s for everyone. Many of the first Christians, who were all Jews, had a difficult time understanding this. Even Peter and some of the other disciples had a difficult time getting it. Paul seemed to be one of the few apostles who not only accepted that Gentiles could be saved but also applied that truth and preached God’s gospel to them so they could find salvation in Christ.

In this passage, Paul speaks of the “house” God is building. Jesus was the cornerstone, the piece that held it all together. Through the apostles and prophets, God laid the foundation on that cornerstone, building a spiritual house and temple that was holy to God, utterly given over for his use and love. This is the place where Jews and Gentiles come together, with all of us in that house.

God has made it possible for everyone everywhere to become part of his family. No matter who your ancestors were, no matter what your family of origin, you are a candidate for living in God’s house. He promises that if we come to him and accept his Son as our Savior, we’re in the family!
