In The Light

Once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!

Ephesians 5:8

HAVE YOU EVER stepped into a dark bathroom in a hotel, switched on the light, and seen ugly things scatter? It can be a jarring experience, but in places where bugs, cockroaches, spiders, and other insects find a home, they often come out at night. Why? Because there is safety for them in the dark.

In the same way, much of the havoc people wreak on others is done in the dark. Not necessarily in the dark of night, but in places where others cannot see or intrude. Robbers go into dark houses to do their dirty work. Adulterers find out-of-the-way places to carry out their trysts. Murderers generally try to find moments when people are not prepared, behind closed doors and out of sight.

What things did you used to do in the dark? God says that if you’re a Christian, you’re a new person now—a person of light. Walk in that light. Live openly, without guilt or regret. Do your good deeds everywhere you can. God promises that your life in the light will preach more effectively than simply saying good words.
