He Chose You

[Jesus said,] “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”

John 15:16

THIS VERSE POINTS to an issue many Christians wonder about. We all know that when we accepted Christ we chose him and gained salvation. But could we “unchoose” Jesus too?

This verse is a great truth and a greater promise. It says Jesus chose us. Jesus drew us to himself, opened our minds and hearts to his love, and influenced us to the point that we trusted him. This means that our salvation did not depend on our making the right choice. God was involved in bringing us to him from start to finish, and that makes our salvation all the more secure. We know that he will also see us through to the end.

Obedience is important. Faith is paramount. But never forget that God came and called you. Never forget that he loved you enough to make sure you heard the message and had the chance to believe. Never forget that somehow, even before you believed, he made sure you would make the right choice, too. It’s a mystery that we don’t understand, but let’s be thankful he’s chosen us and will hold us secure forever.
