God’s Promises

Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.

Psalm 119:50

WHEN SARAH FACED difficult times—a husband who left her for another woman, financial problems, loss of her house, and a battle to keep her kids—she turned to the Bible’s promises to sustain her. She read the Psalms over and over, selecting specific promises of God’s love and deliverance and comfort to memorize and pray about.

For a while it looked as if all was lost. But after the divorce, her husband ended up leaving the woman he’d left Sarah for. She won custody of her kids when he simply said, “Forget it.” And she started a small catering business, using her ability to cook excellent gourmet meals to great effect. As her business grew, she added other hurting women to her organization, and in time she could look back and say, “God kept every promise.”

Look to God in whatever troubles you face. Remember his promises. Consult the Bible, and memorize the passages that speak directly to your situation.

Promises from Scripture are not offered as empty platitudes. Bible promises are set in gold, as sure as God’s own character. Though there may be times when it seems God has not heard your pleas or forgotten about your needs, his promise is that he hears all your prayers, and he will act on your behalf in his own time.
