God Sends The Rain

God Sends the Rain

Ask the LORD for rain in the spring, for he makes the storm clouds. And he will send showers of rain so every field becomes a lush pasture.

Zechariah 10:1

IN A FARMING society, rain is essential. Thus, the Bible is filled with images of God promising rain for the people’s crops. When the Israelites sinned against him and followed idols, God punished them with droughts and famines. His purpose was to draw them back to himself and make them realize that only faithfulness would be rewarded.

The principle still works. Though physical famine may not be a problem in Western society, God sometimes disciplines sinning Christians by sending them hard times and difficulties meant to make them turn back to him. Usually, one of two responses follows: either to be angry and hate God and curse his name or to repent and admit their wrongdoing and cry out to him for forgiveness and renewed blessing.

It’s all a matter of attitude. What approach are you taking these days—fighting him and being angry? Or seeking him and asking for mercy and understanding? If you turn to God, he will shower his blessings on you and make the pastures of your life rich and green.
