God Is Upon Us

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.

Isaiah 61:1

WHEN JESUS CAME to our planet, he had an important and clear mission:

1. To bring good news to the poor.

How often do poor people get bad news? Sometimes every day. But for them Jesus brought tremendous hope. This world is not the end. Those who are poor will not always live in poverty. He will take them to a place where all their needs will be met.

2. To comfort the brokenhearted.

This world is full of disappointment and heartache, but Jesus came to comfort those who weep, whether because of unmet expectations or the loss of a loved one through divorce or death.

3. Finally, to proclaim release to the captives.

Many things in life can make a person a spiritual prisoner. Sin. Addiction. Hatred. Depression. Disease. Abuse. Hurt. Jesus came to fix all such problems.

What is your problem? Jesus’ promise is that he can help you with it now and ultimately get you to a place where such things will never affect you again.
