Forgiving God’s Way

I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist. Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free.

HOW COMPLETE IS God’s forgiveness?

One day, while watching the clouds drift across the sky, Scott was reading his Bible and came to this passage. He had struggled with the issue of forgiveness, worried that although God had cast away most of his sins, perhaps some new ones had stuck. And he was afraid that one day God would make him face the truth: he wasn’t really forgiven.

Scott had faith, though, and he asked God to help him understand the truth of his forgiveness. Was it total? Did it cover everything? Did Jesus’ death put every sin away for all time?

As he stared at the sky full of clouds, a wind came up, and in a matter of minutes the sky became clear and blue, empty of every cloud. Scott returned to the passage, and his heart responded: God had indeed taken his sins and swept them away “like a cloud.” They were gone. The record was clear, perfect.

If you ever doubt the level of God’s forgiveness, take this truth to heart. The promises of God state repeatedly that he has swept away all your sins, from the first to the last.
