Cleansed

I will cleanse you of your filthy behavior.

Ezekiel 36:29

TODAY’S VERSE IS one of God’s great promises to help each of us “clean up our act,” as people in the seventies used to say. Christianity is not a religion of trying and failing and being miserable. Though the Christian life is sometimes a struggle and we go through bad times, God is in the business of making life better for us—on the inside, if not on the outside.

God wants to clean you up. He will take you where you are and begin chipping away at all the junk in your life. In time, you will be a resplendent example of his grace. You won’t be perfect. But you will be far different from what you were. While we come to Jesus “just as I am,” as the song says, God has no intention of leaving you “just as you are.”

He especially doesn’t want you to experience spiritual famine in your life as a result of not partaking of fellowship, the Word, and prayer. If you are not already practicing these spiritual disciplines, get back into them so that as you sow in the Spirit, you will reap a deeper, richer spiritual life. God will transform you into the image of Christ day by day. His promise is not to leave you where you were, but to get you to where he wants you to be.
