Chosen People

Chosen People

You are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9

MONA LED A sad life as a single woman. She had never met the love of her life. She worked at a tiring, unfulfilling job. She had few friends. She also struggled with poor self-esteem and felt like a loser. Finally, one day she went to a pastor she’d heard about for some counseling.

Naturally, he shared the truth about Christ with her. It seemed interesting, but to her it didn’t sound like much of an answer. Then the pastor showed her this passage and explained how becoming a Christian would make her part of a distinguished, holy nation. He spoke of how God chooses believers, and how they are royalty, priests meant to go to God on behalf of others and help them out. Above all, she would belong to God.

That idea clicked with her, and she prayed that God would forgive her and come into her life. Changes did not come quickly. But as Mona immersed herself in church life, built some good friendships, and learned more about God, she began to pray for things she’d always dreamed about but could never attain. In time, she met a widower with children. He fell in love with her. She found a job she enjoyed too. And her sense of self-worth vastly improved.

When God takes you on, he commits to everything in your life. His promise is that you will never regret becoming part of his family.
