Care For The Elderly

Those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.

1 Timothy 5:8

MILLIE’S MOM, WHO lived in a nursing home, wore Millie down. Every time she visited, her mom begged Millie to take her home. Millie tried to explain about medical procedures and procedures she simply couldn’t do, but her mom refused to listen to any of it. Because of her mom’s actions, Millie always felt miserable and guilty.

Then one day, a friend mentioned the verse above to her, saying that her faithfulness to her mother would be rewarded by God. Millie took it seriously. She kept visiting her mother, no matter how difficult her mother made it, and she brought her presents, pictures, magazines, and all the things her mother loved. People noticed Millie’s faithfulness, and several mentioned it to her, saying, “Not many people are as dependable as you are. It’s heartbreaking to see some of these people who never get a visit a year.”

Nursing care and all the problems that come with aging can cost big-time. But the promise is that those who take it seriously will find God’s blessing and pleasure in their lives. No one, not even God, says it will be easy. But he always honors those who take his Word seriously.
