A Christian Nation

I will cleanse them of their sins against me and forgive all their sins of rebellion. Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! The people of the world will see all the good I do for my people, and they will tremble with awe at the peace and prosperity I provide for them.

Jeremiah 33:8-9

A COMMON ARGUMENT among American Christians is whether or not the United States is a Christian nation. Most of the founding fathers were not evangelicals. In fact, several were deists, who most believers would not consider Christians at all. Our nation has put a premium on such things as freedom of religion and separation of church and state. In some cases, the latter idea has been taken to such an extreme that arguments rage about allowing the words in God we trust on our money, removing all religious plaques and references to God from public places, and so on.

Whether the United States is truly a Christian nation will probably be argued till Jesus comes. We do know that this is less and less the case, as other worldviews make advances. However, the truth is that because a lot of its founding principles were based on Christian values, America has been blessed by God in numerous ways. One of the means God uses is to give us prosperity, peace, and other elements that point to his helping hand.

Just as God promised the Israelites in today’s verses, he promises to honor those who honor him. If you honor God in your life, regardless of what the government does, God will honor you.
