All You Need Is Two
All You Need Is Two
[Jesus said,] “If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”
Matthew 18:19-20
THIS IS A great truth about prayer. What does it mean? Many times you have probably prayed in your home or while sitting in church, and you’ve received tremendous answers. But many times we, on our own, simply don’t know how to pray or what to ask for.
That’s where today’s verses help. When we seek other Christians of like mind, whom we can trust and who offer us wise and thoughtful counsel, we can sharpen those prayers. We can hear the thoughts and ideas of our counselors in figuring out precisely what and how to pray.
The real beauty here is the promise: if all of you agree, whether it’s two, four, or eighteen of you, you can be much more certain God has heard and will answer than when you simply shoot in the dark, not knowing what things to consider as you make your request. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit will pray for you, knowing what the real needs are (see Romans 8:26).
Friends are wonderful helps in this world. Fellowship can make life seem all the better. But when you get together with your Christian friends, let them know what’s on your heart. God’s promise is to be present in an even more powerful way and to answer your prayers.
