I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers, oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength!

Ephesians 1:18-19 (THE MESSAGE)

We make many minor decisions every day—what to wear, what to eat, how to spend our time. Our choices guide us daily.

“Destiny is not a mystery. For better or worse, your destiny is the result of your daily decisions and defining decisions. . . . Those daily decisions add up. . . . We only make a few defining decisions in life, and then we spend the rest of our lives managing them,” says Mark Batterson, author of The Circle Maker.

So how do we know we are making the right daily decisions? When we know Jesus personally, our eyes gain focus and clarity. When we know Jesus, we can listen to His call. When we know Jesus, we can trust His direction and we can also trust Him to provide the strength to follow it.

Following the lead of their Swiss Anabaptist forebears, the Amish seek to live according to the teachings of Jesus in their daily lives. Their decision leads them to live lives different from most other people. They live “apart from the world.” They emphasize the teachings of Jesus, loving their enemies and forgiving insults.

“If your first concern is to look after yourself, you’ll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you’ll find both yourself and me,” we read in Matthew 10:39 (The Message).

Each of us makes choices daily, but when we choose to follow Jesus, we can trust that those choices will transform our lives, and we’ll discover lives more bountiful than we ever dreamed.

Dear heavenly Father, I thank You so much for not only saving my soul but also guiding my life. When I seek You, I also discover the life that You designed perfectly for me.
