Between You And God #25

Between You and God #25

Dear God, Is it okay for my family to go out to eat when some people struggle to feed their families?

When you draw near to God, and he draws near to you, you begin to see people and things and situations more like he does, instead of like you always did.

There is nothing wrong with having a lot—even a lot of food! After all, God owns everything and talks about feasts in the Bible. But when you share his heart, and you begin to see that you have a lot of stuff and other people don’t, you start to want to give some of that “a lot” away.

Your family can enjoy the blessings God has given you, and if that means a night out for burgers, have fun! But why not brainstorm ways that you can share your food with others? Some families choose to eat only rice and beans for one dinner per week because that is what many people in the world are limited to eating. Then they donate the money they’ve saved to feed the poor. You might ask a family who doesn’t have very much to go out to dinner with you—your treat. Or you could sneakily mail a gift card to them so they can enjoy eating out together, like your family does.

The main thing to realize is that while eating out isn’t wrong, when the Lord draws your attention to the fact that you have a lot and some others need a lot, it may be that eating out often, while others have little, isn’t right for you. If the Lord has gently shown you that you might be gobbling up more than your fair share of the blessings he has passed along, perhaps it’s time to share. He trusts you to do what is right.

Want fries with that?

How about You?

Do you have more than those around you? How can you creatively share what you have?

God Says . . .

No food, in and of itself, is wrong to eat. But if someone believes it is wrong, then for that person it is wrong. Romans 14:14
