When You Feel Unseen
When You Feel Unseen
Ruth
The eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death.
—Psalm 33:18–19
I was in a hurry to finish a few things on my computer before we left. The kids were picking up the family room. My husband was looking for the keys to the car.
“I’m almost ready,” I announced to everyone. “Just give me five more minutes!” And then I heard our youngest daughter’s enthusiastic voice.
“Mom, Mom, look at this!” I heard her, but I was on a mission. Her voice grew a little bit louder. “Mom, watch this!” I looked up, just in time to miss it. “Did you see it?” she asked. With a yo-yo dangling from her hand, she had just successfully completed a new trick she had just learned. And I missed it! She did it again. This time I was sure to keep my eyes on her.
My kids are a constant reminder of just how much we desire to be seen. To be known. To have someone delight in what we do or who we are. And their desire is really the same as ours. A longing to know we serve a God who is not easily distracted or too busy to notice us, care for us, or just take pleasure in us.
The psalmist said the “eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love” (Psalm 33:18). Do you believe that? Are you convinced that God is not too busy for you? That His eyes are really on you?
In Christ, He looks on us with love, approval, and joy. He sees us in those times and seasons when it is tempting to think no one else does. As we look to God, He is looking upon us.
Maybe you are in a season when you feel like no one notices what you’re doing. Perhaps you are waiting on God to show up and answer your prayers. Be encouraged that God has not left you. He is not distracted or too busy for you. And He certainly has not forgotten you. You are not alone, for God sees you through the lens of His love.
Father, thank You that You really do see me. You notice me. Delight in me. You have not forgotten me, and You are never too busy for me. Remind me that I am not alone. Encourage me with the truth that no matter what others see, You see me completely. You look on me with love and acceptance. In Jesus’ name, amen.
In what ways do you seek out the “eyes” of others?
Where do you need the reminder that the “eyes of the LORD” are on you?
