Prayer For Peace

PRAYER FOR PEACE

War. Gun violence. Conflict. Name-calling. Hate speech. These words describe the events of our time, our political discourse, and what happens in our communities and homes. Unfortunately, even as Christ followers, we can get pulled into these things, allowing judgment, fear, and anger to overtake grace, kindness, and humility. In writing to the church in Colossae, the apostle Paul reminded the Christians there that once they became followers of Jesus, their lives were hidden with Christ in God:

As God’s chosen people, . . . clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:12-17, NIV

• Spend a few minutes now praying for peace—in our world, in your country, in your community, in your church, and in your family.
• What reconciliation would be necessary for peace to prevail in these places? What transformation of hearts and minds would be required? Pray for those things to happen.
• Ask God to show you where and how you can be a peacemaker.

May your Kingdom come, may your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.
