Prayer For Leaders

PRAYER FOR LEADERS

Reflect

Our leaders—church leaders, governmental leaders, private-sector leaders, school leaders, and community leaders—need wisdom, insight, humility, and creativity to lead well in this complex, global world. We are practiced in criticizing our leaders and holding them to high standards, but they also need our prayers. The author of the book of Hebrews wrote this, speaking of early church leaders:

Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.

Hebrews 13:17-19, NIV

Many of our leaders have big jobs, manage many layers of stress and expectations, and have people looking to them for answers. All of them are imperfect and fail our expectations often or from time to time. And all of them—from the honorable to the dishonorable, and everyone in between—were made in God’s image and are loved so deeply that God gave his Son, Jesus, that they might have eternal life.

  • Spend a few minutes now praying for leaders, from world leaders to the leaders you specifically report to or are led by.
  • What would they need in order to lead from a healthy heart? What wisdom and insight might they need for carrying out their responsibilities? What might they need to remember about who God is and who they are in his sight to lead well?
  • Pray as God leads you, and ask him to show you how you can be a light and blessing to the leaders you know.
A Prayer to Close

May your Kingdom come, may your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.
