God’s Grace In The Clouds
God’s Grace in the Clouds
You live under the freedom of God’s grace.
Lately, I’ve taken a profound interest in clouds. Puffy, fluffy, billowy white clouds or cottony swishes splashed across the sky that reflect brilliant sunbeams behind and around them. And at dusk—oh my!—the colors are magnificent. Magentas, ambers, baby blues, burgundies, silvers. It’s as if the angels grabbed a box of Crayolas and decorated the heavens. Almost every evening, I walk outside, and like a five-year-old, I identify flying dragons and dogs wearing party hats.
What’s most wonderful about the clouds, though, is that every day they are brand-new. There are always new shapes and colors for me to enjoy and appreciate (even the gray, dull, dreary ones). Don’t like today’s clouds? No problem. Tomorrow will offer a plethora of new choices. No need even to wait for tomorrow. Just wait a few minutes, and the sky will change.
Looking at clouds reminds us that God isn’t a God of second chances. Woe to us if He were. God is a God of infinite chances. Just as those clouds change and re-form over and over, God’s grace toward us is new every day, every minute.
When we need grace, we don’t have to wait minutes or days for it to materialize. We have grace available to us right then—when we humbly ask for it.
I’m not sure I’ll ever look at clouds without a renewed sense of hope. They point to a God who loves to creatively pour out grace on us whenever we need it, whose faithfulness to us is as certain as the sky.
Rest Assured
God, everywhere I look, I see Your creativity and the newness You offer. Even the sky shows that You bring renewed hope and grace to me. Help me look up as often as I can.
Rest in Him: Psalm 36:5-10
